I'm Officially a Bad Blogger

After checking in on the blogs I read pretty regularly, I realized that I had not posted a single word in my blog since January....that's right, it's been 5 whole months. In the blog world, I'd say that qualifies me for the "Worst Blogger Ever" award :( Luckily, I'm not aware of that award actually existing, so I'll just pick up and move on where I left off!

I have another semester of law school under my belt! This semester was another tough one....hence the zero blog posts since January. We finished exams in mid-May, and it took nearly a month to get all of our grades back! Needless to say, myself and lots of my friends were nervous wrecks for what seemed like an eternity. I never thought I would get to say this relating to law school.....seriously, NEVER thought this would happen, but I made Dean's List this semester!!! I guess all those super late nights and dreadfully early mornings in the library actually paid off. Check that one off the bucket list :)

Now that my second year of law school is over, the harsh realities of being a third year law student are starting to set in. I'm working on getting my 3L practice card, which basically means I can go to court and do "real" lawyer stuff....well, as long as a supervising attorney is with me. Next, I'll be registering for the bar exam (insert sick feeling in the deepest depths of my stomach). I'm also doing my rigorous writing assignment next semester, and yes, apparently it's called the "rigorous" writing assignment for a reason. At this point, after surviving the most difficult 2 years of my entire educational life, I'm pretty sure I can handle all that....hopefully.

Outside of school, things are pretty much great! I still love my job :) I really do learn something new everyday. I'm getting a new car!! Hopefully we'll make the big purchase before school starts back, but if not, I'll definitely be cruising in a new set of wheels sometime in late August or early September. I'm trying my best to convince Tony that we need a new house, but for some reason, he's just not jumping on that bandwagon yet....maybe it has something to do with his wife still being a full-time student, lol.

That's pretty much an update on the high points of life right now. I won't even waste my time making a promise to blog more often because I don't like breaking promises, but I'm sure going to give it a shot :)

Half of Me is a Lawyer??

The half-way point.....it seemed so monumental at the instant moment I realized finals were really over, and I had survived. Now, it seems like the next year and a half is going to last forever. The good news is, I made it to this point. Finals are over, grades are posted, and I didn't fail any classes. Some grades were awesome, but one stupid class kept me from making dean's list. In order to avoid posting the world's longest complaint blog, I'll just leave that where it is and not cry over spilled milk.

My study partner and I did find a new "blue suite." Actually, the lovely library people just pushed the study rooms back a few feet and gave them numbers instead of colors. So, we now have a new home. All we need is a coffee table and a couch....OH, and a Keurig :) After this horrible semester, I can genuinely say I'm looking forward to a fresh start with new classes, new professors, and most importantly new highlighters!!

On the non-law school side of things, my husband and I, along with my parents took a Christmas vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We had such a great time, and I can't wait to go back! It was so nice just to relax on the porch of a log cabin and know that I didn't have an exam the next day or an outline to work on :) One down side, for those of you who have never stayed literally at the top of a mountain, the drive to and from that awesome cabin was quite scary. My mom seriously kept her eyes closed the entire time, haha!! I also discovered a hidden talent while on vacation....darts! Our cabin had an electronic dart board in the game room, and Tony thought he could beat me....wrong! I have no idea how, but I managed to beat everybody in the house at darts. So, all in all, if this lawyer thing doesn't work out, professional dart league, here I come!

School starts back next week, so starting Monday, it will be back to the books for another 4 months. Yay!! (Please sense the sarcasm in that "yay"). Oh well, it's like my husband keeps telling me, half of me is a lawyer. Now all I need is to get the other half of me to come along for the ride :)

Where's the Blue Suite?

Well folks, that time is officially upon us again.....finals prep time!! (please sense the legit sick feeling I just felt in my stomach when I typed those three dreaded words). It's mid-November which means finals are approximately 3 weeks away, and as usual, I am nowhere near where I said I was going to be by this time in the semester. I have outlines for all of my classes.....but they're not my own....thank goodness for Outline Depot and trusty 3L students :) My hand is already cramped up from writing out note cards, and my brain just hates me. However, one of my main concerns is where my trusty study group and I are going to relocate since someone decided it was a good idea to remodel the library and destroyed our trusty Blue Suite....what were they thinking?!?! I mean, we've got to find a new covert location. Otherwise, we may not be able to sneak in our caffeine drinks, which are technically not allowed in the library, and our never ending supply of M&Ms or whatever chocolate candy is available at that moment. This could be epic people :)

Oh well, I guess finals must go on, unfortunately. I have a feeling I won't be making many appearances in the blog world until around Christmas time when I emerge from my finals hibernation season....so, Happy Thanksgiving everybody :)

Blogging Fail.....

Well, it has officially been over a month since my last blog post. I would have to say that makes September a "fail" in the blogging world :( Whoever "they" are that say the second year of law school is so much easier are a bunch of liars!! Yes, there is much less pressure from the professors, and the readings are often much shorter. However, the professors this year seem to think we already know everything to be covered in that class. I never ever....ever....ever thought they were spoon-feeding us the material last year, but they really were. I do have one professor this semester that breaks things down into elements for us and makes our lives less painful, but the rest of them just leave it up to us to learn the majority of the material, and let's just say there is a reason I did not choose a career in education.....because I'm not good at teaching...especially teaching things to myself!! I have already ordered at least one supplement for four out of my five classes and am on the search for good outlines. Here's to another semester of sleepless nights in late November and early December, over-consumption of Dr. Pepper, and countless hours spent in whatever we can find to replace the "Blue Suite" :)

On the outside of law school side of things, I spent this past weekend in Gulf Shores with the Alpha Gams for their annual sisterhood retreat. We had a great time, and I really enjoyed getting to know some of the girls better. I had never been to Gulf Shores before this weekend, and I never knew how nice it was.....I definitely added it to the potential vacation spots list.

That's pretty much all that's been going on in September and now October....sad, I know. Gotta love the life of a law student :)

8.29

At this moment two years ago, I was getting ready for one of the most important moments of my life. Two years ago today, I married my best friend. The day was absolutely perfect. So many friends and family shared with us in our special day and made it even more memorable.

Most of the day is a big blur, as everybody assured me it would be, but the big moments are still just as clear in my mind as they were two years ago. I still remember the butterflies in my stomach as I got ready to see Tony for the first time and how nervous I was right before walking down the aisle in the middle of WAY more people than I expected :) I still remember Jeremy's shoe breaking in the middle of pictures, lol. I still remember my little brother referring to himself as the "little boy who carries the rings to the preacher" and I'll always remember how beautiful my Mom looked that day.

The past two years have been full of ups and downs, but I wouldn't change a single thing. Thank you Tony for loving me just the way I am and for always supporting me, no matter how crazy my plans may be :) I love you!

There's No Place Like Alpha Gam!

This past weekend was recruitment weekend for the AGD chapter I advise. It's always a super stressful weekend, but by the time bid night rolls around, all the hard work is totally worth it for those precious girls! My friend Nicole is the recruitment advisor, and she took on the daunting task of redoing pretty much every aspect of Alpha Gam's recruitment this year.....oh, and she may have also had a baby 13 days ago :) Everything turned out SO great! The girls did such an awesome job pulling everything together, and they're so excited about their new baby squirrels! I'm the new member advisor, so I get the privilege of working closely with the new members over the next few weeks as they work their way to initiation...here's to a great new member period!

OH! More great news....I figured out how to get pictures from my phone onto my blog, haha! Here are some snap shots from this weekend!

The door decorations that 2 of the girls worked so hard on....they did such an awesome job! (Their skit was obviously Wizard of Oz themed, lol.)

The new pledge class!!

Year 2.....

Well, my summer is officially over, and my second year of law school starts tomorrow. I would be lying through my teeth if I said anything other than this, "I'm completely dreading going back to school. I don't want to do it. I wish I had another 2 months of summer." Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited about seeing everyone that I haven't seen since May, but I feel quite sure they feel the same way as I do about class. My motivation went on summer vacation too, and it's just not back yet. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now except get my reading assignments done and be ready tomorrow morning.

This semester, I'm taking 5 classes all on Tuesday and Thursday. So, if there is a bright side to this whole situation, I only have to go to class 2 days a week and actually have Fridays off this semester! The down side to that is I'll have TONS of reading to do on Mondays and Wednesdays. Here's to hoping I'll be able to use my time wisely and not get behind in my readings :) My survival partner (Effie) and I managed to get all 5 of our classes together this semester. I don't know how I'm going to react when the inevitable day comes where we don't have all of our classes together, lol. I sure hope what "they" all say is true about the first year being the hardest and the second year actually having some trace of fun involved....guess we'll find out soon!
